Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 3 large eggs
  • 0 cups vegetable oil
  • 0 cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 0 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the eggs, oil, applesauce, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Pour the batter into your prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely in the pan.
  6. Beat softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until fluffy and spreadable.
  7. Once the cake is cool, spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the top. Slice and enjoy!
